Kent Shields

Kent serves as the Executive Vice President of Technical at EDP Renewables North America (EDPR NA) and as a member of the company’s Management Team. Kent’s teams are responsible for all activities related to engineering and design, construction management, contractor oversight, and startup and commissioning for new wind, solar, and battery energy storage system (BESS) facilities in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, with a focus on execution safety, compliance, quality, and balancing CapEx optimization with financial performance goals of operational facilities.

Kent has more than 17 years in renewables, having joined Horizon Wind Energy, now EDPR NA, in 2007 as a Civil Engineering Manager. After pursuing an endeavor outside of EDPR NA to join a solid fuel biomass startup. company in 2011, he returned to EDPR NA in 2016 to spearhead the construction of wind and solar projects and support execution of the company’s development strategies.

Prior to entering the renewable energy space, Kent was a Geotechnical Engineer for Golder Associates in Atlanta and served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Honduras. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and a Master of Science in Civil Engineering – Geotechnical from The University of Texas at Austin. Kent is also a registered Professional Engineer in Texas.
